Post comments about attack line placement. What would you have done differently if you had another chance (if anything). Would it have changed if the fire were located on the third floor?
E1 stretched 1 3/4" on A side and deployed from a landing. One resident opened the security gate for us and allowed access. I walked right past the swinging metal gate and never secured it. Definitely learned my lesson with that as it closed shut after E13 deployed their back-up.
Also as we were setting up on the landing, there were several kinks in the line that were significant enough to reduce our flow to nearly nothing. We did our best to resolve them prior to making entry, but it remained in the back of my head as we were pushing through zero visibility and high heat. Not a good feeling. We had good pressure upon making entry, but I still was uneasy about potential for additional kinks due to restricted area of deployment.
In my opinion this was as near a flash-over situation. We cooled the environment as we advanced, but as the fire progressed and ramped up with reports of victims trapped, and possible extension to the third floor I felt as though we were out of place to assist with any of these additional problems.
Had the fire extended to the third floor I would have likely made it approximately 30-40' down the 3rd floor hallway. The 300' line that E13 took in for back-up was a much better option.
Also I wasn't sure how long the building was upon initial deployment. Turns out it was 100' plus...
